This is a wonderful Tannat Port that has aged 3 years in French Oak Barrels

Winner of the best Port-Style wine at the Alantic Seaboard Competition

Gold Medal

Reviewed by Julia Harding/Jancis Robinson

A port-style made from Tannat grapes purchased from a grower in Shenandoah AVA, from Sherman Ridge Vineyard. pH 3.94, RS 52 g/l. Aged three years in French oak.
Very dark garnet with smudgy rim. Rich, ripe black fruit but no raisining. Sweet, spicy, the sweetness well balanced by the firm but smooth tannins. Warm from the alcohol and tastes better slightly chilled. There's an attractive savoury side to this port-style wine, slightly leathery, which is a good foil to the sweetness. The tannins build in the mouth. A very good port style, harmonious and sustained. (JH)

Silver Medal in the Shenandoah Cup 2023

Silver Medal in our Governor's cup 2024

If you love Big Red wines, this is a lovely grape that is compared to Cab Sav.   We put a touch of American Oak on it, otherwise it spent it's life in French Oak.   This dry lovely balanced wine is stunning. Earthy, mouth-watering, fruit compote, lingering, and soft.

GOLD MEDAL- Shenandoah Cup 2024

This wine is staying true to repeated consistancy and gold medals.    On the two vintages we have had on this very young vine, we have produced 2 gold medals.

Silver Medal in the Alantic Seaboard Compeition only 2 months in the bottle.   Headed for greatness like its previous vintage.

Marquette 2023

This wine was reviewd by world renowned wine critic Julia Harding and below are her tasting notes:
Score 16 (superior) for the sold out vintage of 2022.  Below is her review.

The current 2023 is even better.

Full bottle 1,140 g. This is the first time I have tasted Marquette, a complex hybrid created in 1989 in Minnesota. Aged 9 months in French oak.
Lightish cherry red and vibrant cherry and strawberry fruit on the nose. Just slightly herbal and delicately floral – nicely so. Light-bodied with lively red fruits and very gentle tannins. Fresh and refreshing. A really nice surprise with no really obvious hybrid notes except perhaps at the very end when there is something strawberry like. Excellent freshness on the finish. Juicy and mouth-watering. (JH

Red Blend –90% Arandell, 10% Petit Verdot

This latest vintage of our number one selling wine is young and very similar to a Cab Franc at the moment, with a hint of smoke. Very well balanced and drinking very well in its youth.
